When installing and/or replacing exterior wood, always use a wood that is highly resistent to rot, such as Plantation Mahogony or Spanish Cedar.
Before installation prime all sides, including the ends, with an oil base exterior primer. When cutting to fit, remember to prime the fresh cut ends before installation.
Install using stainless steel nails, screws, etc... Fill nail holes
with wood putty.
After installation, hand sand exposed surfaces and apply a finish coat of oil based exterior paint.
Your primer and paint should always be from the same
manufacturer and labeled for the same usage. Paints and primer are formulated by each manufacturer to interact together.
